Hammock: Craft and product

Ideal for reading, sleeping, meditations, camping, have a rest, etc., our famous hammocks are made by Thais craftsmen and women from Chiang Rai and Lahu tribe from Chiang Mai.

It depends on the size but one hammock can be weaving during 1 to 4 days. Lahu’s hammocks are hand dyed natural cotton rope. They make small and large versions, for 1 or 2 adults.

Hammocks’ designs are created by Thais artists. There are lots of different color stripes and patterns: rainbow or blue, green, purple, and orange, yellow, red stripes, etc., from 1 to 10 different colors by item.

Some hammocks are made for indoor or for outdoor uses (100% weatherproof), just for sitting or spreading, it depends on the size.  The bigger is Super-Jumbo Hammock made in acrylic material.

More about Lahu people:

There are around 50 000 Lahus now living in Thailand. The four subtribes of Lahu are Lahu Na, Laju Sheh Leh, Lahu Shi and Lahu Nyi and they all produce a diversity of designs.

Lahu women are skilled in weaving cloth both on back strap and foot treadle looms. Lahu weaving is unique in that the pattern appears on only one side of the cloth. Lahu women also produce delicate and colourful patchwork trims.

Lahu men make baskets, crossbows and musical instruments.
